Tuition
The education of children in a parentally-involved, independent Christian school in Ontario requires financial support from parents/guardians. Your tuition fees cover most of the cost of educating your child(ren). A small portion of the annual budget is raised through donations from parents and the larger Christian community.
The John Knox Christian School Society (JKCSS) is a registered charity. A donation receipt for income tax purposes is given on an annual basis for a portion of the tuition fees.
Financial Information
In order to enroll your children at JKCS, you must first apply for membership. A non-refundable membership fee of $200 must accompany the membership application form.
Membership in the John Knox Christian School Society is compulsory to enroll students in the school or to hold a spot on the waiting list. A receipt for tax purposes is issued for membership fees.

After Tax Cost Of Education At JKCS
The Federal Government allows parents/guardians who choose a faith-based school for their children to use a portion of the tuition fees as a charitable donation for income tax purposes. Through a formula, schools calculate what is called the cost per student or "deemed tuition". This figure is re-calculated each school year. Deemed tuition is charged for each student attending the school. The CPS is deducted from tuition fees paid and the remainder qualifies as a charitable donation for tax purposes.
*The "deemed tuition" varies from year to year depending on the cost of operating the school, the number of students, and the amount of revenue received from sources other than direct parental contributions. JKCS can not guaranteed that the amount of "deemed tuition" will remain the same from year to year.
** Not all families are taxed at the same rate. This is the highest marginal tax rate for incomes over $100,000/year. Families with an income earner that earns greater than $33,000 should receive a donation credit of at least 40%
Other Fees
Busing User Fee: There is a bussing fee of $1100 if you require bus transportation.
Student Fees: A student activity fee is required with your tuition payment to cover the cost of special lunch days, field trips, etc. The activity fee for each grade is as follows:
JK to Grade 6 - $35
Grade 7 & 8 - $40
Band and Drama Fee:
An additional fee of $250 is charged for each Grade 6, 7 and 8 student to cover the cost of the band and drama programs.
G.I.F.T.S. Program Fee:
Volunteering is an important part of the JKCS community spirit. All families are expected to volunteer 30 hours over the course of the school year. Those families that are unable to volunteer can opt out for an additional fee of $1000.00 which will be added to your tuition and fees statement.
Christian High School Reduction:
If you have a student in an affiliated Christian high school as well as children at JKCS, you may receive a 10% discount on your tuition. You must declare this information on your enrollment form to receive this discount. Failure to declare a student in an affiliated Christian high school will result in JKCS being unable to offer you this discount.
Capital Assessment:
A $2,000 capital assessment is levied to all new families enrolling their children at JKCS. The capital assessment fee shares the cost of the physical structure of John Knox between generations. The capital assessment fee also assists in the re-payment of long-term indebtedness. Payment of the capital assessment is required in September. If necessary, a written request can be made to the Finance Committee to have these payments spread out over three years. The capital assessment will be reduced by the amount of any membership fees and campaign donations paid in this or prior years by the family to JKCS.
