NEWSFLASH:

This past week we made some adjustments to our new timetable. We took into account some of the feedback we received about the length of the eating times, the timing of the eating times, and the time to organize agendas.

Both students and staff are enjoying the adjustments. We have lengthened the nutrition breaks, added a daily physical activity break in the middle of the day, and placed a homeroom agenda and closing time at the end of the day.

Sometimes when change happens, there is an adjustment time. In an effort to fulfill our 1000 hours of instruction time, we have started school earlier by ten minutes and extended the day by five minutes. As a result, I have noticed that a number of our students have been coming to school regularly after the 8:40 a.m. bell.

When students are late to school, it affects different people. Coming late to class puts the student in a position where announcements, devotions, and part of a lesson are missed. Organization for the student is then negatively affected. The class and teacher are interrupted. When a student comes late, the teacher needs to answer the door and stop the activity. The class mates will often be distracted by the late-comer as well.

May I ask all of our families to aim at dropping off your students at our school at 8:30 a.m.? Our teacher supervision times begin at 8:25 a.m. If students arrive at 8:30 a.m., it provides them with an opportunity to play outside and get some fresh air, come into the building with the other students, and start the day feeling well organized.

Don't get me wrong, there are times when it is unavoidable to come late to school. I have experienced firsthand the effect of vehicles in this area. Doctors and dentists also need to see your children at certain times that affect the school day.

But if you have felt yourself aiming to have your children here later than 8:30 a.m., could you please adjust your timing so that they begin the day with all the other students? Your attention to punctuality will help a variety of people. Thanks for considering if that adjustment applies to you. Your help is appreciated.
