NEWSFLASH:

This is a short week. While the number of days and their names don't change, what has changed this week is that our school personnel will be at a convention at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ontario on Thursday and Friday.

Why do we set aside two days to attend a convention with all the other Christian educators in the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools? Three reasons immediately come to mind.

First, we are interested in connecting as a larger, Christian-school community. It is inspiring to devote together and hear 750 voices singing praises to our God in the Redeemer auditorium. At times, I have thought mass gatherings of Christians singing their hearts out is as close as my human mind can get to a glimpse of heaven.

Second, I have the privilege of attending presentations and workshops of people who are well-respected in their fields. This year's convention has the theme of "Culture making: Recovering our Creative Calling." Andy Crouch; an author, musician, and academic; is the keynote speaker and will challenge us to recover our creative calling. I am sure that other presenters will provide us with some food for thought as to how our schools can take that calling to another level.

Third, I have many conversations with people who are in the same line of work as I. For those of you who attend conventions, you know that sometimes the best learning opportunities come as a result of a private conversation with a colleague.

I am grateful for the Ontario Christian School Teachers Association who hosts this worthwhile event. I am thankful for the great facility at Redeemer which houses us so well. I am thankful that our calendar allows for the room to have our staff attend. And I am thankful for the opportunities that will soon come my way as a result of the experiences at Redeemer.

The Lord be with you as your children have an extended weekend away from the classroom. Feel free to give them other learning experiences. Have them notice the leaves, the squirrels, the cars, the clouds, and the temperature. See you on Monday!

In Christ,

Mr. G. Petrusma
