International Students

JKCS provides an International Student program which includes ELL (English Language Learning). Our program provides spaces for a maximum of 16 International students.

Our world has become smaller through globalization. At John Knox Christian School we recognize that in this "global village" students need to develop a perspective that helps them understand this world. How do we make good decisions about work and life, what about music, movies and the things we read? At John Knox our mission is to "Equip students for service in God's world through Christ-centred education." We provide more than just an education, we teach students how to view the world from a Christian perspective.

John Knox Christian School takes it's mission seriously. We strive to become effective in cross cultural interaction, to enrich the lives of all of our students. Contact with Christian students from other cultures enables all students to see a different perspective and provides a unique culturally sensitive learning experience.

International Student Program Curriculum - English Language Learning (ELL)

• The International Student Program of John Knox Christian School serves international students of all cultures who desire to learn English.
• Students are scheduled to receive conversational language development up to four times per week. This includes written work, grammar, vocabulary building and assistance with homework.
• Students are integrated into the regular classroom program and receive the support of our English Language Learning Teacher.
• Students receive orientation and personal support at school throughout the year.

International Student Program Application Process

1. Interview with Guardians or Parents: If a student will be staying with a guardian, the guardian may fill out the application forms and go through the application procedure OR a long distance telephone or skype interview can be conducted with the parents. The guardian or parents will forward all forms (in English) to the school along with a tuition deposit of $1000.
2. Agents: Agents can forward all forms to the parent(s) to be filled in and then forward the completed forms to the school. Unfortunately, John Knox Christian School does not pay any agent fees.
3. Forms and documents: should be completed in English along with a non-refundable $1000 payment toward tuition. Please also include a photocopy of the student's:
   • Immunization record
   • Recent report card (translated into English)
   • Proof of Medical Insurance while in Canada (policy number & name of company providing insurance)

When the application forms and deposit of $1000 are received, and the parent or guardian has completed their interview, the student is accepted on the condition that the balance of the tuition for the year is paid prior to the first day of school. A letter of acceptance will be issued in order to begin the Canadian VISA process.

International Student Program Tuition

  • The 2011/2012 tuition rate for International/Visa student will be $15,735.
  • The tuition fee includes all fees related to student activities at JKCS (including busing and text books).
  • Tuition fees do not include uniforms or school supplies.
  • Hot lunch (Mondays), pizza (Wednesdays) subs (Tuesdays & Thursdays) and hotdog (Fridays) lunch order forms can be completed after the application process is complete.
  • The cheque can be made payable to "John Knox Christian School".

  All international students are required to pay a minimum deposit of $1000.00 with their application (this deposit is non-refundable)
  • Tuition increases are voted on by members of the John Knox Christian School Community in June of every year.
  • All remaining tuition must be paid prior to the first day of class.
