Curriculum - Standardized Testing
At John Knox we use the Canadian Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS). This is a standardized norm referenced test and assessment tool published and distributed by ITP Nelson.
The primary reason for using a standardized achievement test is to gather information that can be used to improve instruction.
The national norm set measures core skills that all students need. The norm set also compares our students with other schools in our system (Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools ) as well as students across Canada.
The results of the CTBS tests identify:
- student strengths and weaknesses
- information to guide instruction
- monitors student progress
- provides a basis for reporting to parents
- assists in curriculum development
Students in grades 3-8 participate in the CTBS tests every other year. The most recent testing was completed in the fall of 2010. Individual results from this CTBS test are made available through each child's teacher.
In 2010 (our most recent test), each grade of JKCS students scored at least one grade level higher than the national average.
