Teachers
are expected to handle daily student discipline matters within
and outside of the classroom. A continued problem is referred
to the vice-principal for grades Junior Kindergarten-Grade
Four and to the principal for Grades Five-Grade Eight, at
which time students are brought in for consultation and an
appropriate punishment applied.
-
Inappropriate
physical contact is not acceptable (i.e. hand holding, caressing,
kissing, etc.)
-
Swearing,
fighting, rough play, poor sportsmanship or meanness on the
playground will not be tolerated. Students who do not obey
these rules will be spoken to by the principal or vice-principal
and will be required to give up a recess. Punishment of the
student may include being made to stay in a classroom, being
asked to stand against the outside wall or being assigned
garbage duty. Repeat offenses will be reported to the parents/guardians.
-
Misuse
of sports equipment such as hockey sticks, baseballs, bats
or skateboards, will result in loss of the item for one week.
-
Disrespect
towards a teacher or any person in authority results in an
"in-school suspension" whereby the student takes his/her desk
to the office area and works there for one day.
-
Contact
with other students during this suspension time is prohibited.
A letter is sent home. Repeat offense results in a suspension
to be served at home.
-
Deliberate
meanness towards another student, especially causing bodily
harm, will result in the student being given an "in-school
suspension" or further disciplinary action.
-
Any
student at Grade Seven or Grade Eight level who is asked to
leave the classroom because of inappropriate behaviour or
comments that are detrimental to the flow of learning will
be required to makeup a full class (45 minutes) after school.
Parents/guardians will be informed and a date and time will
be set-up for the student to meet this requirement. The student
must spend the time working on the subject missed due to poor
behaviour. Transportation is then the parent's/guardian's
responsibility.
-
Continued
lack of co-operation during the intramural or extramural sports
will result in the student being removed from the team.
-
A
student may be removed from a school team or event by the
coach in consultation with the principal if his/her attitude
does not exemplify that of a Christian school student.
-
A
student may be excluded from extra-curricular activities if
academic effort is inconsistent or if behaviour or attitude
at school is unacceptable.
-
Gum
chewing is not permitted; offenders will serve on garbage
duty.
-
Students
must remain on school property at all times. If this rule
if broken, parents/guardians of the offenders will be notified
in writing and the offending student(s) will be made to serve
a detention.
-
Vandalism
is not acceptable. Parents/guardians and/or the offenders
must restore damage incurred and/or pay cost of restoration.
-
Dress
code: Students are to wear the prescribed uniform unless a
"free dress" day is announced. Any deviation from uniform
policy will result in the student forfeiting a future "free
dress" day. Students are expected to wear gym uniforms for
physical education.
-
Possession
of weapons, or objects used as a weapon, will not be tolerated.
Any situation involving weapons will be referred to the principal
or may result in immediate suspension and/or expulsion.
-
A
student on suspension, either in-school or at home, is expected
to complete all required assignments.
-
There
is zero tolerance of alcohol, drugs, tobacco products, firecrackers,
lighters and matches on school property and on the busses.
Offenders can be suspended for a period of one week at the
discretion of teachers and/or the principal/vice-principal.
Exception: individual medication must be reported by the parent/guardian
to the classroom teacher and the office.
-
A
troubled or difficult student may be suspended as a consequence
of his/her actions in order to protect the safety of other
students. Prior to a student being allowed to return to school,
the School Board may require a consultation with and/or a
written report from a mutually agreed upon doctor or professional
counselor that meets with the Board's satisfaction.
-
The
principal and the chairperson of the School Board may deal
with individual instances of misconduct not specifically set
out by the Code of Student Conduct when deemed necessary by
the principal.
-
In
keeping with the best interests of the school and the students,
the principal in consultation with the chairperson of the
School Board may amend the Code of Student Conduct.
