You may have never heard of the Canadian named Gilbert Perreault (jil-bear pero) ; but now you will have.

Perreault was born in Victoriaville, Quebec on November 13, 1950. He was drafted 1st overall in the 1970-71 entry draft to the Buffalo Sabres.

He centered a line nicknamed the “French Connection” because the line included the French men by the names of Rick Martin, Gilbert Perreault, and Rene Robert.

Perreault played 17 seasons with Buffalo and had many accomplishments with the Sabres. Gilbert won the Calder Trophy, and the Lady Byng. But that’s not all. He also was a nine time all-star, was in two All-Star games, and a Hockey Hall of Famer. He is Buffalo’s all-time franchise leader in most regular season games played, game winning goals, shots on goal; and of course, goals, assists, and points. He was the Sabres captain from 1981 until he retired in 1986. He helped the team to eleven consecutive playoffs which then ended in the 1984-85 season. Over a career of 17 seasons and 1191 games, Perreault achieved 512 goals and 814 assists; totaling 1326 points. Once Perreault set a Sabres record with seven points in one game. Perreault’s best season in terms of points was in 1975-76 season, recording 113 points in 80 games.

Perreault was chosen all by the spin of a wheel. Buffalo’s coach, Punch Imlach, chose number 11, his favourite number, to be the number the dial landed on. It landed on 11, and that was also the number of Perreault by coincidence.

Gilbert was also in probably the best Canadian hockey moment. You have probably heard of it; the ‘72 Summit Series.

So you have now hopefully learned a lot about the great center man, Gilbert Perreault.
