Chinchilllas

As a pet

To have a chinchilla as a pet need a lot of space time and attention they need at least an hour of daily exercise outside there cage. They are most active at night and in the evening so that is a good time to let them play. Even though chinchillas live for about 15 years and are hard to take care of they like a friend so when you are thinking of buying a chinchilla it would be better for you to buy two so they always have company.  Chinchillas usually like plants fruits and seeds and sometimes small insects.  Your chinchilla should be around 1.1 pounds  and 10 inches tall and there tail should be about 7 inches.

Where chinchillas started

If you are wondering where your furry creature started at well the Andes there they lived under rocks and in old burrows if they are alone or with another chinchilla but chinchillas enjoy living in colonies of 100 for more protection from there predators like owls foxes snakes and hawks and other animals who might want them as a snack.  A really cool fact about them is that they can jump about 5 feet. So never leave their treats open on the counter.

What you feed your pet chinchillas

Your chinchilla as a pet needs ever day about 2 table spoons of pellets fresh hay and water the amount of pellets depends  in the size of your chinchilla and how much he or she weighs.  It is good to have a regular eating time if possible in your daily life style. But it is good if you feed them in the evening because they are most active then.  Chinchillas like to chew so it is good to have so things that they can chew on in the cage. It is very good for your chinchilla to have some vitamins so when buying your food look for stuff that is hard and has vitamins to make sure your chinchilla stays healthy all the time.  They may eat some bugs that are not good for them so be very careful of what you let you fuzzy friend eat. Since I have talked about what to put in your chinchillas cage I would like to tell you about what kind of cage you should bye or have. They must be kept in a wire cage ,not a glass tank.  They need good air circulation inside of their cage.( MAKE SURE THEY CAN NOT CHEW THROUGH IT). Buy a cage that gives your chinchilla plenty of room to move around, especially up and down. A cage with two or three levels is the best.  Make sure that the wire on the floor and shelves has very tiny openings to keep your chinchilla feet  from falling through.

Dust and bath house

Chinchillas can not get wet. They must clean themselves with dust. Purchase a bath house and chinchilla dust. Do not use sand. Chinchilla dust cost a lot  more but it is very important to keep your chin ‘s healthy. They must take a bath each other day to keep their skin and fur clean. If a chinchilla does not bath it’s fur may fall out. If your chinchilla does not dust put one table spoon of anti –fungal powder into the dust. Change the dust once every month for health reasons.

BRITTANY

Text Box: Your chinchilla will really enjoy chew toys. Give clean twigs from an apple or willow tree or a small block of pine wood to gnaw on. If these aren't available in your local pet store, they can be bought online. You can also put an apple or willow branch into the cage for your chin to crawl on. Hanging toys are a hit. Your chinchilla will bat them around and chew on them.
You can also buy the large plastic tubes that you can snap together. Then you can watch your chin enjoying itself as it runs through the tunnels.
Balls are not a good idea. Chinchillas can get too hot while running inside them. Also, most balls are not good for a chin's spine because they are too small.
