Grade 1 - Mrs. Clara Boom

As this year draws to a close, it leaves me with a mixture of emotions. I feel glad for the summer break, yet it is always difficult to say goodbye to the little ones you have allowed me to nurture this year. Everyone has learned so much and has come so far since the beginning of the school year. I wish you and your family a ”wonder” full summer filled with amazement at what God is doing and what he is teaching you over the summer. We have had a great year together. I pray that everyone has a fantastic summer!

Andrews Scenic Acres:
Please note that we are leaving at 10:00 am and returning at 3:00 pm. Please send your child with a raincoat and boots as we will go rain or shine. They will also need their lunch, water, hat, wear their sunscreen and bug spray. This is a free dress trip.

Summer Ideas:
To help your child stay fresh here are some ideas for the summer:

  • When you are at the store, see if your child can count back the change.
  • When you are cooking, have your child help you decide which tools to use, and let them measure the ingredients.
  • Review basic math facts, especially addition facts to 18 and subtraction facts from 18.
  • Practice the multiplication facts for 2 and 10.
  • Visit the PUBLIC LIBRARY WITH YOUR CHILD.
  • HAVE YOUR CHILD READ EVERY DAY--BOTH SILENTLY AND OUT LOUD. Both are very important for your child’s reading success, and it builds vocabulary development.

Tuesday, June 27: Last day of school! Hike and picnic at Jack Darling Park

What an amazing field trip. We were able to explore the great outdoors with the wonderful guides at A Rocha Cedarhaven Farm. Thank you so much to our parent volunteers who came along. Their help was incredible, and their good spirits, a gift.

We are excited to be completing our Bible unit this week. We are drawing portraits of either Saul, David, or Solomon, and attempting to summarize the key characteristics of each.
We are also working very hard to complete our mosaics, which will be home by the end of the week (only slightly behind schedule). The detail on these pieces of art is remarkable! Good work, grade 2s.

Social Studies: We are studying Canada with the grade 1s and other grade 2s. Mrs. Boom is asking for empty margarine tubs and wooden spoons if anyone has any extra laying around their house. Grade 4a - Mrs. Debbie Ekron

I feel so blessed to have taught the grade 4 class this year. They really are special kidlets and I shall miss them over the summer--really! I look forward to seeing them in the hallways next year. We have had fun and learned a lot. I have especially enjoyed watching them get comfortable with one another and with their teacher, and as a result, collaborating and learning well. I have appreciated the fact that they have been responsive and enthusiastic about their schoolwork. I have watched kidlets struggle with a concept/task, encouraged and cajoled along the way, and rejoiced when they achieved success. These kidlets have a heart for the Lord. They care about one another and have welcomed new students. Thank you for entrusting me with your children this year. I am sad to see them go, but know that they will soar to great heights !

Summer Vacation: Sleep in, laugh, run, climb, jump, ride your bikes, have playdates, read books, stay happy, remember the Lord in everything you do, don’t worry about next year, stay safe, have LOTS of adventures, practice times tables (yep, sorry), and know that I think you are all great!

Grade 5b - Nate Oudyk

What a fantastic, last full week of class! We did a number of learning activities this week that were slightly different from what we normally do. We completed tasks like open-ended math application projects, open-ended writing and presentations, science labs, and we even played a game to help us learn media literacy! I’ve been so impressed with the students and how they are handling the long stretch of class time in June. Next week Monday, we are going on our field trip, and then Tuesday will be our final day of class celebration and reflection on our year. I’m excited for the fun times that these events will be, but I’m sad that it means that I will no longer be these students’ home room teacher. It’s been a great year, and I will miss them!

Math: We have officially finished all of our learning goals for this year! This week, we took time to look at the math we’ve learned and think about some way that it might apply to things in the real world that we enjoy. I’m really excited for them to present these projects toward the end of this week!

LA: We spent some time this week having some significant conversations around media literacy and what that is. We talked about how to understand media messages, and we looked into various forms of social media, some of the potential dangers that they might cause, and how we can avoid these dangers or solve problems when they come up. We will be taking time toward the end of the week to hear each other's’ LA options works. These are things that the students wrote during LA options time when they were permitted to write about anything in any way that they want. So far I’ve seen stories, slideshows, reports, and others. I’m so excited to hear what the students enjoy writing.

I always enjoy doing this sort of activity because it is such a hands-on learning experience. Thanks to all those who lent or donated tools or electronics to make this happen.
